Oris Aquis: Diving Watches with that Certain something Extra

Diving watches have a long tradition at Swiss watch manufacturer Oris. Over the years, the manufacturer has repeatedly enriched its famous Aquis series with new innovations. Today, they combine state-of-the-art technologies with functions suitable for everyday use. The collection includes purist three-hand watches, GMT models and chronographs with regulator movements. Finally, special editions that reflect the manufacturer's sustainability philosophy round off the line.

The models in the Oris Aquis series are considered to be the modern, functional diving watches from Oris. Their outstanding features include clear readability even underwater and water resistance to a depth of 300 metres. The first diving watch from the traditional Swiss company, launched in the 1960s, served as the model for the series. The name Oris Aquis, with which the 2011 collection was titled, refers to the wet element for which the functional watches are made.

Of course, the Aquis watches also feature the famous Oris Red Rotor. The protected trademark refers to the company's claim to produce exclusively mechanical watches: "High-Mech instead of High-Tech". This stands for excellent watchmaking art, guaranteeing the highest reliability for timepieces used under extreme conditions.

Oris Aquis

Made for Exploring the Ocean Depths, Designed for Everyday Life

Unlike its sister collections in the field of diving watches, the Aquis series is primarily concerned with the everyday utility of its models. The Oris Prodiver collection is aimed at professional divers, who are thus given a scientific instrument to work with. Meanwhile, the Oris Divers make the hearts of vintage fans beat faster. However, the Aquis models are intended for demanding everyday use.

The Oris Aquis Date and Oris Aqua Date Relief models, for example, are water-resistant to 300m as standard and have a clear dial with a date display at 6 o'clock. Other variants of the Date models are available with an enlarged date display at 3 o'clock and/or an additional small seconds display. For ladies, Oris offers an Aquis Date with diamonds set on the bezel.

Oris Aquis Depth Gauge

The Watch with the Depth Gauge

With the Aquis Depth Gauge and Depth Gauge Chronograph, Oris also offers the first diver's watch that measures depth. Water can penetrate through a groove milled into the cover glass and thus reliably determine the diving extent. The sporty design of the models with unidirectional rotating bezel convinces with clarity and high-quality workmanship. The diving watches are worn with a robust rubber strap.

Oris Aquis Master Diver

A special model in the Aquis collection is also "The Master Diver". The watch has a regulator movement that reliably moves a prominently designed minute hand. The hand, which has a large arrow with a red border, is lined with Superluminova, just like the indices, so that the time can be reliably read even in great darkness. An hour dial at 3 o'clock and a small seconds dial at 9 o'clock provide additional clarity and security. The case is made of robust titanium and is completed with a ceramic bezel.

Oris Aquis with many exciting Special Editions

Environmental protection and the commitment to charitable projects have always been important to the Oris company. The watchmaker, therefore, regularly demonstrates its commitment with strictly limited special editions. Of course, these should not be missing in the category of diving watches. With the Special Editions in this area, Oris supports marine conservation organisations and draws attention to environmental problems in the world's oceans.

For example, the Oris Great Barrier Reef directly supports the Australian Reef Restoration Foundation, which is fighting to preserve the world-famous coral reef. The Clean Ocean Limited Edition, which was designed based on the Aquis, aims to draw attention to the threat posed by plastics in the world's oceans. Only 2,000 pieces were made of this model. The special feature: A unique medal made of recycled plastic adorns the case back.

Another limited edition from the Aquis series is the Oris Clipperton. This was developed as part of a partnership for the protection of the Clipperton Atoll, thus the colour scheme is intended to reflect the waters around the atoll.

In addition, the watchmaker is also thinking of marine life. The Oris Blue Whale Limited Edition is a diving chronograph inspired by the blue whale. It is intended to draw attention to the endangered species. The case is made of high-quality stainless steel and a crystal-clear sapphire crystal. The stainless steel safety screw crown ensures reliable water resistance up to 300m.
