Rolex 2021

Among the most notable new releases of the year are Rolex's revamped 2021 Explorer models. Both references have been given a more classic appearance on the outside and a latest-generation manufacturer calibre inside.

The Explorer II, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021, has been carefully modified. The case from the predecessor Ref. 216570 of 2011 was slimmed down again as part of the new introductions. This small but subtle change gives the Explorer II (Ref. 226570) a classic attitude. This way, the watch will still look timeless in 30 years. With the 3285 calibre, the Explorer II has also received a revised in-house mechanism which has already proven itself in the GMT Master models.

Explorer – Back to the roots

After eleven years with the Explorer 39, Rolex has returned the model to its usual diameter of 36 millimetres. The overall appearance of the Explorer 20202 (Ref. 124270) is now once again based on the references 14270 and 114270 since 2021. Also, the Explorer received a newer manufacture movement (calibre 3230), which was presented with the Rolex Submariner No Date in 2020.

The crowning glory of the Rolex novelties in 2021 is the Bicolour Explorer (Rolesor Yellow). This is the first bicolour version of the Explorer since the use of the classic 3-6-9 dial. When combined with the timeless look, the mix of materials is a highlight. As such, this model is not only the biggest surprise at Watches & Wonders but also one of the most desirable new launches of the entire watch year.

While the GMT-Master II in stainless steel was previously only available with the elegant Jubilée strap, the top model, with both black and blue bezel and red and blue bezel, is now also available with the sporty Oyster strap. The Sky-Dweller, which was previously only available with the Oyster strap or the innovative Oysterflex strap made of rubber, can now be configured with the Jubilée strap.

Other highlights of the model year include the Meteorite dials, which Rolex now also offers in the gold variants of the Daytona. These dials come from the core of exploded asteroids and are only available in extremely small quantities. Because it is a natural product, each Meteorite Dial has unique grain.

The Datejust 36 has also received new dials and is available with the Wimbledon Dial for the first time. This was previously reserved for the Datejust 41. Other Rolex novelties of 2021 include dials with an exotic palm tree pattern and a symmetrical charming fluted pattern.
