Baselworld 2019: The Rolex GMT-Master II BLNR is relaunched!

Baselworld 2019: The Rolex GMT-Master II BLNR is relaunched!

Nils Rau

The rumours that the famous Rolex "Batman" will be discontinued were persistent. Since Baselworld 2019, we finally have closure: the watch is not being discontinued, rather renewed. From 116710BLNR to the 126710BLNR! In addition to a new wristband, the new Batman also features a caliber of the latest Rolex generation. Read ahead to discover all the exciting new details!

The hit model lives on

The Rolex GMT-Master II with the blue-black bezel is one of the most successful Rolex models. Before Baselworld 2019, there were numerous discussions - from speculations to supposedly official announcements - about the "Batman" no longer being produced. But the answer to the mystery can sometimes be so simple: The watch received an update and continues to be available in a revised form.

This update not only brings the blue-black GMT-Master II into the new Rolex age, but also makes it clear that Rolex will continue to add anniversary ribbons to the GMT-Master collection. If the bracelets are reserved for the GMT Master series, Rolex will be able to make a skilful distinction to the Submariner.

The new BLNR: The perfect look?

The new reference 126710BLNR has what it takes to outdo the old 126710BLNR: the colour mix of black and blue, which is simpler than blue and red, harmonises perfectly with the multi-faceted jubilee strap and ensures that the watch has the right dose of fine details without appearing overloaded. However, it remains to be seen whether the watch will be able to continue the success of its predecessor. It also seems that the blue tone on the bezel of the 126710BLNR is a little more intense than that of the 116710BLNR. This could also be the lighting conditions at the fair, so we cannot be certain yet.

The new generation: Caliber 3285

BLNR can now play a leading role not only in terms of appearance, but above all in terms of technology: With this update, Rolex is equipping the watch with the latest generation of calibres. Calibre 3285 replaces calibre 3186 and now offers a power reserve of around 70 hours and the new Chronergy escapement, which further improves the accuracy of the watch. Since the escapement is made of a nickel-phosphorus alloy, it is also resistant to magnetic fields.

Conclusion: Long live the King!

The fact that the BLNR was not discontinued, but revised, is a stroke of genius: the model is still available, but with a forward-looking and trend-setting update. After all the rumours, it would have been almost boring if the model had been discontinued. The innovation fits perfectly into the Rolex portfolio of recent years and continues the evolution of the brand in its familiar dosage. Now available in our shop!
