Rado Hyperchrome

An innovative use of high-tech materials

An innovative use of high-tech materials

The Swiss company Rado was originally founded as a movement factory in 1917 under the name of Schlup & Co. The company was headquartered in Lengnau, Switzerland and effectively positioned itself as a ébauche movement producer. It was only in the 1940s that the company, under the name of Rado, introduced the first in-house manufactured timepiece. Today, Rado stands for unique design, distinctive form, and robust high-tech materials.

In 2012, Rado launched a watch collection that personifies the savoir-faire that the company has accumulated over countless years in the field of watchmaking. Typically innovative of the company, the Rado Hyperchrome is comprised from a single piece of high-tech ceramic. Therefore, the watch is scratch resistant and particularly robust. The Rado Hyperchrome, with its casual yet elegant feel, has the potential to become a modern classic.

A technological breakthrough

Watchcases comprised of an innovative ceramic

The case of the Rado Hyperchrome convinces not only as a stylish piece of jewellery but is also celebrated as a novelty when it comes to the construction of ceramic watches. An elaborate high-pressure injection process allows for the case of the watch to be produced in one single piece and, therefore, does away with the need for a steel cage that is typical of ceramic timepieces. As a result, the timepiece is extremely light, scratch resistant, and comfortable around the wrist. The later stages of the high-tech ceramic process consist of placing the case of the watch into a special oven, where a plasma column activates gases at 20,000°C. The gases then permeate the surface of the ceramic case, which modifies its surface structure, resulting in an exquisite permanent lustre.

The so-called monobloc case is cleverly integrated with watch lugs that present a unique aesthetic and a distinctive form. Depending on the preference of the client, the watch models are available in a sleek black or a pure white high-tech ceramic. All the timepieces from the line impress with a hardness of 1250 Vickers. Colour matching elements on the dial of the watch perfect the overall aesthetic of the timepiece and ensure that the optically contrasting indices, counters, and chronograph pushers are highly visible.

Rado Hyperchrome Automatic Chronograph

A functional accessory on the wrist

The Rado Hyperchrome Automatic Chronograph (Ref. 650.0276.3.010) embodies the characteristic values of the pioneering company. Innovation, functionality, and high aesthetics encompass the overall philosophy of Rado. The Hyperchrome Chronograph is an everyday timepiece that is characterised by a “less is more” principle. The high quality of the timepiece can be witnessed on the one hand by the scratch-resistant high-tech materials incorporated in the creation of the watch, and on the other hand, be demonstrated by the reliable automatic chronograph movement that makes up the interior of the timepiece.

The Hyperchrome Chronograph comes equipped with a power reserve of 42-hours.
