Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute

The Navitimer Cosmonaute by Breitling was developed in 1962 and has long been one of this century’s legendary watches. In the same year, astronaut Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth three times aboard the Aurora 7 - with a Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute on his wrist. The Navitimer Cosmonaute, as well as its successors, have inspired watch enthusiasts worldwide ever since.

Is it 10 a.m. or 10 p.m.? In space, questions like this can be unsettling: when an astronaut looks through the porthole of a spaceship, he sees nothing but the darkness of outer space.

The Navitimer Breitling Cosmonaute is, therefore, the perfect companion for galactic missions. The special feature of this model is the 24-hour scale that enables its wearer to read not only the exact time, but also the time of day. Timing is extremely easy thanks to the chronograph function of this legendary wristwatch. The stainless steel case radiates robustness and a thirst for adventure - living up to the spirit of the Navitimer Cosmonaute.

Experiencing world history with Breitling - The Navitimer Cosmonaute & the Mercury-Atlas 7 Mission

The Breitling Cosmonaute (Ref. 809) was launched in 1962 as a special edition of the famous Navitimer and has been a member of the watch family ever since.

The useful 24-hour display was certainly the reason why American astronaut, Scott Carpenter, took the Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute along with him on the historic Mercury-Atlas 7 mission. Carpenter was a loyal customer of Breitling and had come to appreciate the characteristic circular slide rule of the Breitling Navitimer before he underwent the famous Project Mercury.

After his three-orbit flight in the Aurora 7 capsule, Scott Carpenter went down in the archives of history along with his Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute.

The astronaut watch by Breitling

The first models of the Cosmonaute (Ref. 809) enjoy great popularity amongst watch collectors and lovers of aeronautics.

The price of used watches is strongly dependent on the condition as well as the history of the wristwatch - and this celebrated timepiece is no exception. The Navitimer Cosmonaute is one of Breitling’s true classics and has been in production almost without interruption since 1962.

On that account, the second-hand market offers a wide range of different versions of the Navitimer Cosmonaute. The design of the watch has more or less stayed the same - superficially, the Cosmonaute of the ‘80s (Ref. A12019) hardly differs from the Cosmonaute of the ‘90s (Ref. A12020 and Ref. A12022) or its successor (Ref. A22322).

After having presented its first calibre, Breitling launched the first Navitimer Cosmonaute with the manufacture calibre Breitling 02. The limited Navitimer Cosmonaute Blacksteel (Ref. AB021012 and Ref. MB0210B6) elegantly expresses the rich tradition of this wristwatch.

The design of the watch has stayed true to its original spirit, and is thus considered a true classic on the wrist. The watch design has continually inspired watch enthusiasts worldwide and can be considered a traditional timepiece amongst watch collectors.

Owners of a limited edition Breitling Cosmonaute timepiece can consider themselves lucky, since the watches come equipped with special features whilst staying true to original and outstanding design.
