Oris surprises with bronze, stainless steel and Limited Editions

April 04. 2018 - by Nils Rau

Oris presented many new watches at Baselworld 2018. The Swiss watch manufacturer is also following the current trend, as the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition is another impressive bronze watch. That's not all: Oris' steel watches also surprised us at this year's fair.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition: The bronze trend continues

The Sixty Five series was a great success for the Hölstein-based company. The first Carl Brashear edition - a bronze version of the Sixty Five with a blue dial - was particularly popular. It is therefore gratifying that Oris is bringing another bronze copy of the diver's watch onto the market.

The Oris Divers Sixty-Five Carl Brashear Chronograph Limited Edition is 43 millimetres tall and, like the previous watches in the Sixty-Five collection, water-resistant up to 100 metres. The watch follows the heritage trend and has a domed glass. For this reason, the side view of the watch is also a lot of fun. The rather luxurious height does not disturb the wrist at all. The bronze case houses the automatic caliber 771, which is based on a Sellita SW510 and offers a power reserve of around 48 hours. The Bi-Compax style of the chronograph adds a further vintage flair.

Anyone who has fallen in love with the watch should brace themselves now -  All 2,000 copies of the Limited Edition have already been sold. The price of the watch is 4,400 euros.

A touch of bronze with the Oris Sixty Five Bronze Bezel

A (very) attractive consolation plaster is perhaps the partially bronzed novelty of the Sixty Five collection. Oris gave the Sixty-Five another model with a bronze bezel. This detail is inconspicuous, but together with the colour-adjusted dial and the play of the hands gives the watch that certain something.

There will be two versions of the Bronze Bezel - one in 36 and one in 40 millimeters. The latter bears the date not at three o'clock but at six o'clock. The prices for both watches are 1,900 Euro with leather, textile or rubber strap. Watches with a stainless steel bracelet will cost 2.100 Euro.

New edition: Oris Pro Pilot Big Crown Pointer Date

One of my personal fair surprises is the new Oris Pro Pilot Big Crown Pointer Date. This year, Oris has given the entire collection a new look. As already written elsewhere, numerous watches could be found at this year's Baselworld that are ideal for daily wear - the new Big Crown models are definitely among them. The design is simple and restrained, but immensely pleasing. Oris has succeeded in building a restrained but very characteristic watch.

The colours of the dials - available in light green, light blue or brown - were very well matched. What I like most is the brown watch. From the watch with the green dial, there will also be a model with a bronze case. If you are looking for a point of criticism, you could find it in the somewhat too slim second and date hands. Although in my opinion, that’s not a bad thing. The diameter of the watch is either 36 or 40 millimetres. The 36 millimetres should be suitable primarily for ladies' wrists, the larger model of the watch wears surprisingly discreetly and restrainedly. The slim silhouette should contribute to this. The price for both sizes is 1,500 Euro with a leather strap and 1,700 Euro with a stainless steel strap.

Oris GMT Rega Limited Edition

Another innovation is the Oris GMT Rega Limited Edition. The watch was developed in cooperation with the Swiss Air Rescue Service Rega and was designed for pilots. This results in an impressively good readability, which is achieved by large white hands on a black dial. In addition to the date display, the GMT Rega has a GMT complication, as can be seen from a discreet hand for the second time zone. The 45 millimeter stainless steel case has a grey PVD coating for a harmonious gunmetal look.

There will be 2,000 copies of the Oris GMT Rega Limited Edition. The price is 2,550 euros.

Oris Clipperton Limited Edition

In 2017, Oris first supported an expedition to the Clipperton Atoll (southwest of Mexico) under the leadership of the Canadian N2Pix organisation. With the Oris Clipperton Limited Edition, the Swiss manufacturer is continuing the project where part of the sales revenue generated with the watch - which is limited to 2,000 watches - is to flow into future expeditions.

You can tell right away that the Clipperton belongs to the Aquis series. The shimmering blue dial of the Limited Edition is supposed to take up the colour of deep sea waters and immediately captivates you. In addition, the watch has all the functions typical of a diving watch. In addition to an ideal readability and a water resistance of up to 300 meters, this includes a unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel. Also worth mentioning is the truly excellent workmanship of the Oris Clipperton Limited Edition. This applies not only to the watch itself, but also to the truly outstanding stainless steel bracelet. The attention to detail also becomes clear when you take a closer look at the box. According to Clipperton's dedication, 30 percent of this consists of regenerative algae. The price of the watch is 1,950 Euro with a rubber strap and 2,150 Euro with a stainless steel strap.
