News: New Omega Speedmaster

Omega has unveiled a new addition to its iconic Speedmaster collection, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch with a white dial. This release pays homage to the classic design of the Speedmaster Professional while offering a refreshing twist with its distinctive white dial - paying homage to the suits of astronauts, as well as to historical special editions such as the Speedmaster Alaska Project .

Basic statistics of the watch include a diameter of 42mm, crafted from stainless steel with a lacquered finish on the dial. The white dial provides a striking contrast against the black text of the sub-dials, offering enhanced legibility, with a shock of red for the Speedmaster script under the Omega logo. The watch features a sapphire crystal for durability and scratch resistance, and it boasts a water resistance of up to 50 meters.

The retail price for the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional with a white dial is reported to be around $6,300 USD. The reference number for this model is 310.30.42.50.04.001.

This release holds notable significance as it adds a fresh and modern touch to the revered Speedmaster collection, while still maintaining its heritage and timeless appeal. The white dial variant offers enthusiasts a unique option within the Speedmaster lineup, catering to those who appreciate both classic design and contemporary aesthetics.

Magazine article: Datejust II vs. Datejust 41

Time to Review: Your March Moments
Left: Rolex Datejust 41 (Ref. 126300); Right: Rolex Datejust II (Ref. 116300)

The Rolex Datejust II represents a departure from traditional elegance towards a more confident design with a larger case and distinctive features. Despite praise and criticism, it failed to meet the expectations of Rolex purists and was eventually replaced by the Datejust 41 in 2016. The latter returned to more classic proportions and incorporated advancements such as the caliber 3235 movement and the jubilee bracelet. The brief lifespan of the Datejust II demonstrates Rolex’s commitment to preserving its core principles and resisting temporary trends. The brand emphasizes its ability for self-reflection and its status as a paragon of excellence in watchmaking. Nonetheless, the Datejust II remains a fascinating chapter in Rolex’s history, gaining renewed interests as a rarity in the pre-owned market. Its lessons serve as guiding principles for Rolex to remain relevant in a constantly changing market.
