Audemars Piguet Classique: a pocket watch second to none

Over 800 hours of work, more than 637 components and finishing by hand - the Audemars Piguet Classique from the Vallée de Joux region is a masterpiece of traditional watchmaking. The Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet produces this unique pocket watch with its fascinating mechanism, the highest-quality materials and a perfectly shaped, elegant design.

Audemars Piguet is one of the most important watch manufacturers in the world today, with a quality standard that is second to none. These values are also reflected in the Audemars Piguet Classique pocket watch, which is only produced in small numbers each year and is only available on request.

Watchmaking in Perfection

The case and spring cover are made of 18-carat gold. The white enamel dial is protected by high-quality sapphire crystal. The Roman numerals are printed in black, while the hands are made of blued stainless steel. Additionally, the Grande Complication has an in-house calibre 2860 with manual winding. This is wound manually via the crown. Other features of the Audemars Piguet Classique are:

  • Perpetual calendar
  • Minute repeater
  • Flash seconds chronograph
  • Small seconds

With its 59 mm case width and 19.6 mm case height, the Audemars Piguet Classique can be worn classically in a waistcoat or suit pocket.

Perfection and elegance with tradition

"To break the rules, you must first master them." – This is how gallant the current philosophy of the luxury manufacturer Audemars Piguet sounds. The company headquarters of the family business, which remains independent to this day, is still located in Le Brassus in the Swiss Jura. It was here that Jules-Louis Audemars began making his own watches as early as 1875. With the official founding of Audemars Piguet & Cie. in 1981 together with his childhood friend Edward-Auguste Piguet, the watch manufacturer initially specialised in the production of high-quality and complicated pocket watches - and did so successfully.

Just one year later, the two founders presented their first pocket watch creations with a perpetual calendar and minute repeater. In 1889, they even won a prize at the World Exhibition in Paris with the "Grande Complication" pocket watch. They later developed the smallest movement with minute repeater and the first wristwatch model with minute repeater. The pocket watches' outstanding quality helped Audemars Piguet gain a reputation and business success as early as the end of the 19th century.

The heirs of the family business continued this tradition when they began producing wristwatches in 1919, which became increasingly fashionable and were in greater demand by customers than classic pocket watches. The brand positioned itself in the luxury segment by producing precise and high-performance chronometers, including those for the military and the addition of precious stones and metals to the watches. The launch of its popular classic Royal Oak in 1972, at the latest, established Audemars Piguet as a permanent player in the luxury watch sector.

Constant innovation and numerous world records

It was not only with the development of the Audemars Piguet Classique series of pocket watches that the manufacturer left a lasting mark but also by presenting the Royal Oak — the thinnest automatic movement with a central rotor in the world at that time. Innovation followed innovation, such as the first watch with a perpetual calendar released in 1955 or the first chronograph with lap time measurement.

To this day, the company has set numerous world records and continues to present new world premieres, such as the visually and technically more than impressive watches in the Audemars Piguet Millenary series. At Audemars Piguet, innovation and tradition are inseparably linked.
